I am officially a bad influence
India bought a vintage pattern on Sunday, in honor of my birthday (I'm now 36, woot!).
Lo, here it is (from FuzzieLizzie) and it is made of great:

Those pleats around the neckline ... marvelous. (I also eBayed a copy up for myself: who's the bad influence NOW, India?) I'm thinking about adding piping to that neckline ... everything is more fun with piping.
I would like to point out that if you need excuses to buy vintage patterns, you really can't beat "I have to buy one; it's the traditional observance of Erin's Birthday"; like making a flag cake for the 4th of July (or, I don't know, are there Guy Fawkes-themed cakes?), it's just Something People Do.
And, speaking of not-so-bad influences, you should check out this wrap dress, modified for a member of our Dress A Day junior auxiliary! I'm glad to know there's a whole generation of little girls wearing cool dresses and not mini-J.Lo ensembles.

Oh, totally view 1. Unless I don't have enough fabric, in which case I'll put a *different* skirt on it, but still not view 2's skirt.

Love it! I recently purchased McCall's 5466 (http://www.mccallpattern.com/item/M5466.htm?search=5466&page=1), which has the same pleats at the neckline.
Long-time lurker, delurking because I finally started my own blog where I will be posting my trial-and-error sewing projects soon! Thanks for the inspiration!

Hey Erin, what's the official bday date? My parents' anniversary is the 8th, someone in the office is the 9th, my baby sister turned 40 on the 10th, I'm the 17th (47) and another office budy is the 18th. Both grandmas were also August babies.

Sunday? So that's the 12th? Another (better!) reason for it to be "The Glorious 12th"!! Actual reason, it's the start of Grouse Shooting season up in the Highlands. But I'd much rather have it be the Everybody Buy A Vintage Dress Pattern 'Cos It's Erin's Birthday season.
Happy Birthday!! (I was 36 too, 20 days before you!)
Cheers,
AJ

Erin, I DO like this one; I like older vintage more, but, I would wear this a little longer, because that is what I like. I might have a little less petticoat fulness because of my prefernce to a longer length. You know how to pick great patterns! I want this one!

I hope it is a birthday full of pockets, and pockets full of happiness!
I just had one of The Big Ones: I turned 50 on the 31st. I was going to say I wasn't sure how I felt about it, but it doesn't really matter, because: still 50.

Happy Birthday -- the dress is very Erin - with the full skirt. I am odd ball -- I like the straight skirt. Many happy returns on the day.

Love those dresses, and the gloves too. You know gloves with a sleeveless or short sleeve dress is just so classy looking.

My mom had a dress(RTW) very much like view 2(straight one). I remember how much I loved seeing her in that dress, with white heels and her white gloves and little flowered hat. She was beautiful!
oh, and ps. my tape measure came today!!!!!

New slogan proposal: "A Dress A Day brings dressy people together."
I just got a message from a former coworker and housemate whom I'd lost touch with (since 1992!), who said she found me through this post.
Thanks, Erin!

What a wonderful dress!
Great neckline!
And of course Happy birthday!
I love to see piping. Hate to sew piping! Does anyone have tricks to do that? I never get it even in one go!

Happy b'day, Erin. Funny - You get to be a year older and India gets a new dress!
India, I'd love a photo of the finished product for my web gallery.
And I LOVE AJ's proposal: Everybody Buy A Vintage Dress Pattern 'Cos It's Erin's Birthday season.

that dress is all kinds of awesome. I prefer the pencil skirt; all the more for the 50s va va voom feeling. An embroidered cashmere cardigan as a topper, high crocodile shoes (and matching bag) and it's date night!

You are a bad influence, Erin; I went to Fuzzy Lizzie and bought not one, but two patterns! (And not for the first time, either.) I will think of them as "The Birthday Outfits;" not to be confused with The Birthday Suit!
