A Dress A Day

A dress.
Mostly every day.

dreaming of dresses

dream dresses

India sent me the link to this artist, Kirsten Harper -- this is a dress Harper saw in a dream! I wish I had those dreams. (Last week I dreamt I was arguing with someone while my son powerwashed the INSIDE of the house. No, I have no idea what that means, except, PERHAPS, that I had fried oysters for dinner.)

I love that the pink bow emits a mushroom cloud. So often they do, you know, those bows. Gotta watch out for that.

And while we're talking about dresses and artists, an exhibit inspired by the book The Hundred Dresses has opened at the Artspace in New Haven, Connecticut. If you're nearby, you might want to check it out!

Cool drawings! And I LOVE the Hundred Dresses. I recently re-read it - hadn't read it since I was a kid, and interestingly I had really misremembered it. I think I must have been sick the first time, because I had a vague memory of Wanda being left out because she was ill (and missing a lot of school because of that), and not because of classism & xenophobia. I think I really identified with Wanda (as well as the well-meaning Maddie) and her rich inner life (I was really into drawing too, and a shy bookworm). I remember imagining all of those dresses in great detail - I remembered the drawings as being life-sized, and hanging in the closet on hangers. The more I think of it, the more I think I must have been feverish at the time. I wonder how many of our adult fetishes can be traced to childhood books or toys...

I dreamed about steampunking a sewing machine this morning.

Not sure if that would help me make more dresses.

I've heard that a house in your dreams often represents your own psyche...so are you feeling like you need a mental powerwash?

last summer I had a dream that I was running through a castle, or some kind of huge, airy building, in this fabulous fuschia satin-and-tulle dress. I am very very bitter that my artistic abilities are nill because I need a picture of that in my room! :)

I dream of dresses alot, however they all have waistlines at least 10" smaller than my own. I KNOW what those kind of dreams mean. Thinking of sewing projects helps me to sleep until I get too excited about the project and then can't sleep!

Oh don't tell me about the exploding bows. I'm always watching from the corner of my eye. Gotta love weird dreams.

Hmm, well, I do live near New Haven and that does look like an interesting show, maybe I'll check it out. The whole place looks pretty interesting and I had no idea it was there.

    Must read the book, first!
