Drabble #3

plaid dress

My favorite place is the grocery store. I don’t really like food all that much – when you are always worried about spills and never taste anything, why would you? – but I like the grocery store. I like the colors, and watching them repeat like a pattern, seeing the glossy red of the apples show up again on the bread and the laundry detergent and the cookies and the lipstick she throws in the cart. I like the music, and how sometimes she dances a little, there in the aisle. I like seeing the other dresses. It’s a good place.

Oh, my goodness. Did you make this one? I made a similar plaid in 1963 as a school project - matching all those plaids......lots of work, but worth it.

I recall when I was about four losing my mom in the Big Y Grocery Store. I was following her dress, down at my eye level, and tracked another woman in the same dress. I looked up and there was a stranger. Tears. Candy. The announcement, "Lynn's mother is lost." Happy reunion.

I caught up on reading your drabbles right before I started watching the latest episode of "Medium". The opening sequence talks about how she was sensitive to the imprint of events on inanimate objects, like clothing. Imagine what Dress A Day would look like if Alison Dubois were writing it :-).
