At first, everything seemed fine between us. I mean, she complained that I was scratchy, but I just thought that would be fixed when I was done. How could I have known that ‘scratchy’ was just a stand-in for “I don’t like you”? And the other woman, the one in the white dress, she seemed to like me. She clapped her hands, at least until she was poked by a pin. It wasn’t until she put me on, still wearing curlers, and cried, that I knew I was ugly. Neither of us could wait for the day to be over.
[So, THANK YOU ALL for the amazing contribution to Heifer International! Here's the first drabble, but there will be other non-drabble content between now and Christmas. For instance, Welmoed tells me (and the NY Times confirms) that the Audrey dress sold for $800K! That's a LOT of sheep.]

In 1968, I wore that dress in my sister's wedding, but my dress had a satin cumberbund. I did like the daisies in my hair, though.

Oh! I had to wear a dress just like this in a wedding, too! It was yellow, rather than the lemon-lime green that this one is. It had a wide yellow ribbon around the waist, too.
Sad to say, even though I looked good in the color, I didn't care for the dress.

Thank you for so sweetly demonstrating the spirit of giving in so many ways this week. Giving has such a ripple effect (when we are open to it) by inspiring recipients to give to others so they can know the wonderful feeling. Erin has been engaging in some mighty fine pebble throwing.

Oh dear, I had to wear one like that in yellow satin too. It was my aunt-to-be's wedding in the early 70's. Her sister and I were candlelighters and she, being very dark looked good. And I, being very fair, looked really sick! The ultimate humiliation was the big matching yellow fabric roses perched on top of our heads. I was afraid to move for fear it would fall off!

What a hideous dress! Do you think brides deliberately choose them to make them more beautiful in comparison?

Ok in the seventies - as a mere child - I had to wear a short sleeved white and pink spotted version to my cousins wedding. Must admit I liked it though. But the drabble dress is seriously fu-ugly!!!!
On the audrey dress I saw a copy of it in a Versace retrospective display once and it is a seriously simple sheath dress. What made it special was the person it was originally designed for...

Am I the only person who feels sad for this dress? As a red-head, I like the color. Were I old enough, and thin enough, I could have pulled it off, I think. I'm not saying it would be memorable, but it could have worked! Poor dress!

I kinda like the dress! It reminds me of the bridesmaid dresses in my neighbors wedding and I thought they were beautiful. Of course that was in 1970 and I was 9 years old.
