And again, from the top

I threatened to do one that was mostly orange, and here it is. How wrong is it that all my "what shoes go with these dresses?" problems could be solved if only I could find a pair of orange espadrilles? Quite wrong.
Also wrong is me not matching the stripes on the front band, but, you know, with clashing prints this busy I expect not very many people will even notice. (As the saying goes, "If they're nice they won't notice, and if they notice they're not nice.") The stripes were not on the grain -- they are printed on the bias, so even though the band looks cut on the bias, it's not. Does that make sense? I hope so. It's a very lightweight voile from Hancock's -- I thought it was on sale over Memorial Day but it was in fact just hanging out next to the sale fabric, hoping to have some of the sale frenzy rub off on it. Which is of course exactly what happened; by the time I got to the cutting table I was already too deeply invested to mind that it wasn't forty percent off. These two fabrics were designed to coordinate, or at least they were in the same "collection," which, I have to say, feels more than a little bit like cheating, considering the last dresses either had fabrics created more than a couple decades apart, or that were sourced, by hand, from different countries. (It was nice not to have to look at the colors under every light bulb in the house, though, to make sure they really matched. Which I do even though I have full-spectrum fluorescents in the sewing room.)
Here is a closer view of the bodice:

And here, for those who requested it, the back view:

The skirt is a bit hung up on the dressform on the right side.
I think this is the last one, even though I have some red, turquoise, and dark blue paisley that matches EXACTLY with a turquoise scribble print ... we'll just have to see.
Just a reminder that NEXT Sunday I will be at the Housing Works Bookstore all afternoon for the Literary Magazine Fair. All literary magazines $2, proceeds support Housing Works! Come by in a dress and I will give you a pen (while supplies last). And if anyone has made any sightings of orange wedge espadrilles in the NYC area, would you let me know?

Go to the Zappos.com webpage and search for Women's Shoes, and the color orange. Several orange espadrille type sandals come up.
I've ordered from them before, and they have excellent service. Free exchanges, too, if something does not fit.
I envy you the shoe shopping of New York City! Someday I'll make the pilgrimage.

Okay, I can't be alone in wanting to see you in at least one version of the dress, can I? Also, never even noticed that the stripes did not match ~ thought it was part of the overall design of the bands, so don't sweat it! You obviously love this dress so I say go for the turquoise version and make one more then you will have a week's worth of dresses ~ easy summer dressing!

Try ninewest.com and look for Trinee, it's quite espadrille-ish the orange is very vibrant. And the rosette trim is on a clip and is removable.

Ah! I was wondering if you had eliminated the center back seam as I plan to do- I HATE pointless cutting and seaming! Thanks for sharing the back view.

Nice job. I really like your taste. I think there has to be a place for orange espadrilles, doesn't there? Also, I'm in love with your neighborhood/backyard/wherever-you-took-that-photo.

Very cute! I think brown strappy shoes sandals would be fine, especially if they have a bit of Asian style to them.

OMG I've been following these recent dresses of yours and they're amazing - I hope you're proud of your talent.
I'd so pay mega [for me] bucks for one of those!

My first couple minutes looking at this lovely dress were spent contemplating the polyester versus beauty tradeoff (it's gorgeous, but could anything be worth wearing polyester, especially in the summer?). Then I realized -- no, you could not have made a polyester double knit dress. It's just that those prints scream "I am wash n wear, hear me roar."
So it's cotton shirtweight, right?
Hat's off, again.

I would have done the neck stripe on the chevron instead of trying to match them up.
But that might be a bit precise for the free mood of this dress design.

So pretty, Erin! I finally finished my second version today. Think I'll move on to the similar Nina Ricci pattern now - I have some chiffon that needs using up.

Another great dress! I finally broke down and purchased this pattern. I have yet to check my fabric stash but know something is there for this dress.

How DID you eliminate the center back seam? I cut mine out on the fold, and then had extra fabric because of the seam allowance. I guess next time just cut it 3/8" narrower?

I'm so in awe!
I really love this dress and you have made 3 fabulous ones. I almost bought the pattern yesterday, then I remembered I don't really know how to sew. Can you comment on the potential for a beginner sewist to make this dress? I've made a few bags and stuff, but I'm still learning how to make clothes.
thanks!

Can a woman over 40 get away with ties in the back? I was going to make this without the ties (hidden hooks and eyes at the back of the band for fitting), but this looks cuter than I expected. WWTSS (What would The Sartorialist say)?
I am also a c cup, so this dress could be a total disaster for me. But WTF. Looks like a fun project.
