Oh, dear, poor Alex! I sent her here, and she loves your website! (Yes, Julie is Alex, Alex is Julie.) http://www.somelikeithaute.com/2006/04/19/the-new-math-of-one-stop-dressing/#commentsYou may find that you enjoy her website more than her book. And, OMG, I am so the Dick Francis fan! He and Robert Parker are two authors who can actually describe what men AND women are wearing so you can see them in your mind's eye. And I too love the Competent Calm Men. I had read where he thought he might not be able to write anymore after his wife's death; apparently she was his writing companion, and chief researcher. His son(s) make silent appearances: some of the specialties listed in different books are apparently theirs. Unfortunately, I won't read his books past the one with the ponies. You know the one I mean. I'll read the ones before it, but I couldn't bring myself to read That One.

I accidentally found myself at the release party for "Some Like it Haute" at the National Arts Club in February, and I must say, the excerpts we read were pretty horrendous. I mean, just terrible. I didn't feel so negatively about the free booze, though.

Holy cow, Erin. This isn't the site I still need to send you, about custom-shoes-that-won't-break-the-bank, but there's a whole slew of vintage-appropriate ladies' shoes:http://www.johnlobbltd.co.uk/catalogue/fullsize_images/Website_shoes_boots/Websiteshoes/Ladiesshoes/ladiesshoesthumb.htm

John Lobb makes BEAUTIFUL shoes. They are, unfortunately, quite expensive, but worth every penny. I'd love to get myself some. However, these shoes are nice for vintage looks, and less expensive.
